A Time for Courage
We are living through a moment that is asking something of us. Something beyond competence, beyond resilience, beyond the ability to manage more, faster, with less.
What this moment asks for is a willingness to lead with integrity when it would be easier not to. To have the hard conversation instead of the comfortable one. To hold a vision of what’s possible even when the path there isn’t clear.
That’s what courage looks like in a leadership role.
What Courageous Leadership Actually Means
Courage in leadership is about acting with integrity and clarity when the situation is uncertain, when the stakes are high, when it would be easier to stay quiet or keep things as they are.
When leaders lead with courage, something shifts. In themselves, in their teams, and in the organizations and communities they serve.
Courageous leaders:
- Know their own values and act on them, especially in the moments that test them
- Hold a high bar for ethical behaviour without apology, and model it every day
- Bring confidence and curiosity in equal measure, open to being wrong and committed to getting it right
- Know how to step outside the group norm to see things differently, and have the skill to bring others with them
- Build trust through authenticity, accountability, and real care for the people around them
- Hold a vision of what is possible and the practical wisdom to lead a path toward it
This kind of leadership isn’t reserved for a title or a corner office. It’s available to anyone willing to do the work.
Why This Work Matters Now
Our world needs leaders who can work through uncertainty without losing their humanity. Our organizations need leaders who know how to create cultures where people can do their best work. Our communities need people at the table who will hold the line on trust, civility, and shared purpose, especially when those things are under pressure.
None of that happens by accident. It happens through intention, reflection, practice, and support.
That’s the work I do with the leaders, teams, and organizations I coach and facilitate. I help people find and act on what courageous leadership means for them, in their role, in their context, right now.
Are You Ready?
If something in you is saying that now is the time for a change, a conversation, a different way of leading, I’d love to hear from you.
Maybe you’re an executive who has been carrying something alone for too long and needs a trusted thinking partner. Maybe you lead a board or a team and can feel that the culture needs to shift but aren’t sure where to start. Maybe you’re somewhere earlier in your leadership journey and you want to build the habits and courage that will carry you through what’s ahead.
Wherever you are, there is a next step. And I’m here to help you find it.
“Babs is the quiet voice I carry with me that opens up spaces for my bravery. She validated the idea that leadership doesn’t have to be at the front of the room, and that bravery coupled with compassion is where the magic happens. In every role I embody, I carry the courage that Babs stoked inside of me.”
— T., Metro Vancouver Business and Community Leader
“She’s like a fairy godmother of sparkling energy, deep wisdom, boundless warmth, and wicked smarts.”
— B., Public Library Director
